Nude Beaches
You can call me a prude, but nude beaches aren't really my thing. I'm not sure if it's because I still haven't been able to recover from a traumatic holiday experience 30 years ago in what was then still Yugoslavia. I was 11 years old and my parents (two very avid nude beach frequenters) came up with the brilliant idea to take me and my younger brother to a nude camp site in Istra. We made a reconnaissance drive around the site first to see if we liked it there. I can vividly recall the scenes I saw that afternoon from the backseat of our Peugeot. I remember a couple of people playing tennis wearing nothing but trainers and sweat bands. Penises and breasts happily bouncing up and down when their owners were trying to get those high balls. I saw two girls my own age in their birthday suits playing with naked Barbies. Next to their tent there was a family sitting naked around their BBQ grilling sausages and hot dogs. It was too much flesh on display for me and my little brother. The two of us were screaming at the top of our longs that we didn't want to pitch our tent at that horrid camp site. So the only thing left for my mom and dad to do, was take us to the camping site next door where clothing was required.
My parents still go to nude beaches now that my brother and I have left their house. Curious about the reason why they like going there so much, I asked them one morning why they strip in front of other people. My dad said he didn't care about the other people and that it was just because he didn't like wearing wet swimsuits. He said: It makes my bum itch. My mom agreed with this and said that was why she did it. (I know for a fact that this is actually not true and that she likes to show off her body to other people. But then again, she looks great.) I saw a survey in a magazine about this recently and there is a large number of people who go to these nudist beaches because they are exhibitionists and want other people to see them. The only thing is that the majority of these people doesn't exactly look like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. They usually fall into the overweight and obese category. I'm a firm believer that man invented the swimsuit for a reason and that's because most people just look better wearing it. It's too much information when people bear it all.
After that traumatic experience in Yugoslavia, I have accompanied my parents to nudist beaches once or twice. Albeit reluctantly and in bikini. Top and bottom. Because I believe everyone needs to leave something to the imagination. Even if you have a body like Elle McPherson as I do. (Just kidding)
