Menorca is the Real Jewel of the Balearic Islands - a great original beach story by isnare on a beach holiday.

Menorca is the Real Jewel of the Balearic Islands
Menorca is one of the Balearic Islands and it takes it name from being smaller than the nearby island of Majorca. Menorca literally means "minor island." However, this is not to say that it should be discounted as an inferior island. In fact Menorca actually has more beaches than the rest of the Balearic Islands put together. As Menorca is a smaller island than its neighbour Majorca, Menorca offers a more relaxed, low-key atmosphere making it a perfect family destination.

Menorca is the perfect place for a relaxation holiday. The surroundings are absolutely idyllic with red sandstone, rugged cliffs and calm waters all around. It is also a very green island with olive groves and orchards dotted around the countryside as far as the eye can see. Menorca is also home to various quaint fishing harbours that add a sense of culture to this beautiful island. Menorca oozes charm and you are bound to pick up some interesting and unique souvenirs as a memento of your travels.

There are various resorts for you to enjoy, each offering something different. If you are looking to try something new and exciting on holiday then perhaps the horseshoe-shaped bay of Arenal D'en Castell is for you. If offers a vast expanse of sand that is perfect for trying out a new watersport. If you are a thrill-seeking individual then there will be something here to really get your adrenaline pumping. Or perhaps you prefer visual stimulation in the form of the gorgeous bay of Cala Galdana with its exquisite pine trees all around.

The bay is thought to boast some of the most impressively beautiful views in the western region of the Mediterranean and is not to be missed. Or if you are searching for the perfect family holiday then you should head to the resort of Cala’n Forcat which is specially designed to accommodate you and your loved ones. There is an aqua park that young ones will just love which means adults can relax knowing that the kids are happy playing. In Menorca's idyllic surroundings there is no reason why you can’t relax and return home feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

It is true that Menorca isn’t as cool or as up and coming as the islands surrounding such as Ibiza and Majorca. But that isn’t to say that it isn’t as popular as a destination. Menorca still boasts its fair share of tourist hotspots but they aren’t as obvious or loud as you would expect from neighbouring islands. If you are more interested in quaint cobbled streets and local culture then this is the place for you. The seafood restaurants are as authentic and fresh as you can get and you really will be sampling the true culture of Menorca.

If you are looking for an idyllic place to top up your tan then you will be more than happy with the large range of gorgeous beaches that Menorca has to offer. Vast expanses of sand are littered around the town and there are plenty of secluded coves and private beaches just waiting to be discovered. If you are more of an explorer type on holiday then there are also plenty of prehistoric stone towers and temples to visit.

There quite simply is something for everyone in Menorca. Don’t let its small appearance fool you, there is more than enough to do and see on this charming island and you are sure to take home happy memories of your time there.
