San Diego, United States beach guide & holiday information
San Diego in California is a very pleasant destination, especially for people who love the outdoors, or are looking a perfect family vacation. It does not have the razzle and dazzle of other popular resorts, but it does have a mild climate and the facilities to accommodate all-comers.
For the experienced surfer, Windansea Beach offers a challenge that brings the locals in their droves, who are not particularly welcoming. If your expertise matches theirs, then 'bring it on, dude.' The other beach at Big Rock is quieter and more suitable to families and their children. Sea Lions love this cosy, sheltered beach and can be viewed close-up as they lounge in the sun, soakin' up some rays.
The more erudite traveller to San Diego will find succour at the Birch Aquarium where other scholarly people conduct research on marine life, and very willingly expound on the mysteries of life 'unda da sea', to anyone who shows interest. After a visit to this cool and refreshing place, if the beach is still not appealing, then there are other places of interest to visit. The Athenaeum Music and Arts Library await your pleasure. Housed in a magnificent structure of Spanish design this institution is a great place to relax in and study the day's world events in the newspapers. The Centro Cultural De La Raza is an interesting place; being in fact a converted water tank that Chicano muralists decorated and displays modern Chicano and indigenous art.
There are, of-course, any number of bars and restaurants where the thirsty traveller can wet his whistle, these cover the entire spectrum of cuisine and other delights. Accommodation is available from five star luxury suites to those more suitable for the budget conscious family income. Population for the city of San Diego is around 1,287,050
