The Zoological Gardens has about 160 species of birds, reptiles, mammals, and insects, and about six hundred animals on display in as natural habitats as possible, that allow visitors to view them behaving as they would in the wild. Stearns Wharf is another not-to-be-missed attraction. Built originally in 1877, fires have often ravaged the wooden structure, the most recent being in 1998. Today restaurants and craft shops line the wharf.
