Hermanus, only 1.5 hours from Cape Town, is a charming seaside town in an astoundingly beautiful location squeezed in between the extremely scenic coastline of Walker Bay and a soaring mountain range, just a short way inland. Hermanus is regarded as one of the best locations from which to watch whales by both Greenpeace and WWF and is famous for the Whale Festival held at the end of September each year when crowds gather on the cliffs in the town centre to watch Southern Right Whales, Humpbacks and Bryde Whales in the bay. Shark cage diving in the nearby town of Gansbaai is also a major attraction and provides a wonderful chance to get up close and personal with these beautiful creatures.

This distinctive vacation destination also has its own wine route and is located in a World Heritage site, and the Fynbos, Cape Floral Kingdom, renders an amazing display of colour which is also at its peak during September.
